Synopsis

By Suzhou River in Shanghai, there was a man called Mardar who made a living by delivering on motorcycle. One day, he took a new job which was to pick up a teenage girl Moudan routinely every week to her relative's home. Day by day, they began to have feelings for each other and fell deeply in love. However, Mardar was actually with a pack of gangsters, and they had been planning a kidnapping using the girl as hostage against her dad. So angry and disappointed, Moudan ran away and said, "If I jumped into the river, I would become a mermaid and come back to find you." She jumped into Suzhou River and disappeared for years. Five years later, Mardar was released from prison. One day when he was at a bar, he met a girl called Meimei. She worked at the bar dressing up as mermaid for show every night. What surprised Mardar the most is that the girl and Moudan looked almost identical. However, Meimei claimed that she didn't know him and didn't remember anything, but she was moved by the love story he told. Despite being so confused, Mardar believed that Meimei must still be alive and he had to find her at any cost...
